Iguanas are a nuisance! They burrow under sidewalks, sea walls, and canal embankments which can result in crumbling infrastructure and costing millions of dollars in damages every year. Further, iguanas eat gardens and ornamental flowers, ruining landscaping and vegetable gardens in the blink of an eye. They destroy native foliage, leaving threatened species like the Miami Blue Butterfly that much closer to extinction. Green iguanas may also leave droppings on docks, moored boats, seawalls, porches, decks, pool platforms and inside swimming pools. As is the case with other reptiles, green iguanas can also transmit the infectious bacterium Salmonella to humans through contact with water or surfaces contaminated by their feces.
